Meet the Authors

Robert Weis
Bob is the founder and CEO of CFOs2GO. He established CFOs2GO in 1986 to address the growing need of companies to engage expert financial talent without incurring the burden of full time employees. He later founded IT2GO and Accountants2GO to provide complementary solutions in information technology and accounting to support Partners and Recruiters with their staffing needs. He has lead the International Practice group since 1999 where he helps foreign companies and immigrant entrepreneurs set up U.S. operations as well as attract top talent for their US team. He also helps U.S. companies set up foreign operations. He leads the International Practice Group.

When not ducking through low doorways given his 6’10” frame, he spends his time listening to jazz musicians such as Chris Botti and Diana Krall, re-living his competitive swimming and basketball memories and cannon balling into the backyard pool to the dismay of his kids.


Doug Kennedy
Doug performs business advisory services and financial consulting work for a variety of family owned businesses from start-ups to mature successful enterprises. He often coaches new leaders of the family-owned enterprise, mostly on financial issues, as they transition from one generation to the next and until they are fully up to speed and comfortable in their new role. On occasion he fills the role of CFO until a new permanent CFO can be identified. . He leads the Family Office practice group. He is a member of the International Practice group where he advises companies on international and U.S. tax strategies.

Doug loves jazz music from the 40s and 50s, tennis ( watching the real stuff) and especially enjoys the fruits of labor from his vintner friend who describes wine (in particular pinot noir) in terms that make it almost a religious experience.


Jess Gutierrez
Jess has supported non-profit organizations as a senior executive, Chairman of the Board, and non-board member advisor. His work with non-profit organizations during the last twenty five years includes supporting foundations, research institutions, land trusts, and children’s support agencies. He works with management teams and Boards on the development of financial reporting systems, policies and procedures, strategic planning, forecasts and budgets, and recruiting and training accounting personnel. He leads the Non-Profit Practice Group.

Jess lives in San Jose and enjoys golf, music and wine tasting with his wife and friends, not necessarily in that order. His love of non-profits and philanthropic duties extends to his personal life.


Chris Chillingworth
Chris has spent his career providing financial leadership to both public and private companies, principally in high tech, real estate and life sciences arenas. He leads the financial systems, stock compensation, and corporate governance practice groups within CFOs2GO Partners. While exceptionally talented in technical accounting, his passion and calling is to effectively communicate financial strategies to all levels both inside and outside an organization. He loves to create efficiencies through technology and to build solid business relationships to resolve business issues that have a financial aspect to them. He leads both the Stock Compensation Practice group and the Software & Technology Practice group.

While Chris has traveled extensively — visiting 48 of the United States and 36 countries – he believes there is no better place to live than the San Francisco Bay Area which he calls home. When not working and spending time with his two grown children, Chris enjoys music, sports (particularly golf and bicycling) and competition, in almost any flavor.


Ed O'Dea LREd O’Dea
Ed O’Dea is a former CFO/COO with significant experience in general and financial management, debt & equity financing, mergers and acquisitions and strategic and financial planning with particular emphasis in the start-up environment. He has a solid understanding of all corporate functions from sales and marketing, to human resources and accounting and reporting which he adeptly applies to the solutions and counsel that he provides his clients. Ed leads the Valuations practice group and is a member of the International practice group

Ed is a devoted husband and father and an aficionado of Spanish culture, wine and food from his years living and working in Madrid. Ed is known to his many friends to have an engaging and charming sense of humor in spite –or as a result– of his years spent in parochial school.

Chris Reynolds serves as the Accounting Manager for the 2GO Group, supporting the clients of CFOs2GO, Accountants2Go and IT2GO with a full range of accounting services.  As a hands-on manager, Chris juggles both his work for 2GO Group as well as various client accounts and provides general oversight and bookkeeping.  He’s responsible for A/P, A/R, Payroll, month-end financial reporting, establishing internal controls and maintaining the general  ledger for a range of clients from small business to large international divisions.  As the resident QuickBooks expert, Chris builds, fixes and maintains accounting systems ensuring that they are properly constructed and maintained.  Prior to joining CFOs2GO, Chris worked with a Big 4 Accounting firm, Freedom Financial and H&R Block where he was first introduced to US GAAP, SOX , Foreign Exchange, FAS 52 and financial accounting.

Chris is a new father and devoted husband, and when he does manage to pull himself away from his family, he spends it playing basketball or bowling.


Jodi Avina LRJodi Avina
Jodi is the Director of Recruiting Services for CFOs2GO. She has been with CFOs2GO for more than 15 years ago providing executive search and placement services across virtually all industries. Her background includes sales and healthcare following a stint in a Big 4 CPA firm. She sits on several Boards for non-profits, including the East Bay Leadership Council and currently serves as the Chairman for Opportunity Junction in Antioch. Jodi speaks French, has studied German and Russian, and plans to add Spanish next. She is a member of the International Practice group.

Jodi has been has accused of being able to hold a conversation with a rock in the road, which comes in handy when phone interviewing clients and candidates alike. In her free time, she can be found reading a biography of a historical person, in the yard tending pinot noir grapes, cooking with a glass of wine in hand or working on a needlepoint project.


Phil Johnson
With over 25 years of experience in the Hi-Tech industry primarily focused on application solutions, Phil has worked successfully in Fortune 100 and technology start-up environments consulting clients on process improvement opportunities, selling to “C” level executives while building strategic partnership relationships for jointly closing targeted sales opportunities.  He has worked with clients in the Consumer Products, Hi-Tech, Financial Services and Real Estate industries. Having worked both with large enterprises as well as serving on three start-up venture teams, he has unique insights into the needs of clients. He has his BSME from Santa Clara University and an MBA from San Jose State University.

Jerry is an expert in cleantech financial matters and has over 25 years of executive and CFO leadership experience guiding companies through financial and regulatory challenges.  He leads the Cleantech practice group at CFOs2GO and is a member of Financial Modeling and Analysis; Small Business; Startups, Rapid Growth Companies and pre-IPO; Financial Systems & Reporting practice teams.  Jerry has a BA in Physics and Economics from Washington University in St. Louis and a MBA from the University of Rochester.  He is a Certified Management Accountant.

Jerry enjoys spending time with his wife going for long runs, traveling and tasting wines. When his son is home from college, they like to play sports (skiing, golf and tennis) and discuss what is going on in the business world.

Tom brings over 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry covering a wide range of leadership positions including IT. He has served as the CFO of several banks and the CEO of two bank holding companies. He was the CFO and Chief Investment Officer for a private equity fund that raised $160 million from institutional investors, acquired seven portfolio companies, merged those companies, and exited via two public equity rounds. Tom’s finance expertise covers accounting, tax, treasury, insurance, investor reporting and budgeting. He has managed outsourced relationships with investment banking, legal and accounting firms, and has overseen IT departments with particular expertise in evaluating, implementing and managing of new technologies in financial services.


Michaela Gifford

Michaela is a successful finance leader with 12+ years of strategic planning, corporate development and financial modeling expertise to bear on client efforts.  She leads the Financial Planning and Analysis Practice Group, using her extensive language proficiency and financial modeling and analysis expertise to implement plans across multi-cultural environments, realize revenue growth and connect corporate teams in Europe, Asia, Australia and North America. She also co-leads the Mergers and Acquisitions Practice Group.
