Non-Profit Practice Group

Non-profit organizations (NPOs) are more complex structures and have broader societal reach than ever before. Resources for supporting strong organizations have grown as well. Whether your NPO serves the mission through donations and philanthropic or government grants, providing a fee for service such as fiscal sponsorship or SaaS solution, or operates an emerging social enterprise with growth capital, you measure your success on the social impact of the revenue received. Grant-making organizations have similar challenges in supporting their missions, with the added challenge of successful investment strategy, reporting and supporting multiple missions and public services. The role of the nonprofit CFO is unique in meeting the challenges and opportunities to maximize social impact, while successfully managing strategy, growth, regulatory and legal requirements for each funding source. Mission-driven organizations require CFOs who are familiar with and adept at working within the challenging and unique environment of non-profit planning, regulation and law. In recent years, nonprofits face increasing regulatory, financial and tax reporting changes and requirements.

In our NPO practice group, we have assembled a network of experts with years of experience guiding and advising non-profits. The practice is led by a partner skilled in NPO financial guidance including tax, accounting, capital management, grant writing, and cutting edge services such as crowd funding or growth capital. We offer consulting services on an on-going or project basis, provide interim NPO financial executives, and recruitment services for direct-hire NPO financial positions. Further, the Consulting CFO can work alone or assemble a team to execute a short-term crucial project or take on a long-term responsibility.

The Challenging Role of the NPO CFO

The CFO must provide the NPO the analytical skills, processes, and governance knowledge needed to support the mission and stay financially healthy.  In addition, the CFO must help the NPO implement practical, analytical, and sustainable approaches to program decision-making and instill discipline that can be leveraged to deliver on the organization’s mission.

Confident business man with colleagues in backgroundAttracting a good NPO CFO is not easy. They must work comfortably with the NPO board and CEO/Executive Director, be the sole expert in financial matters and able to articulate this position, and generally supportive of the organizations mission.

At CFOs2GO  we specialize in NPO financial performance.  We offer consulting services on an on-going or project basis, interim NPO financial executives, and recruitment services for direct-hire NPO financial positions.  We can place a consulting CFO within five days anywhere in the US.

Unlike other organizations that provide interim CFO services, we provide access to all levels of financial talent and tailor engagements to suit the needs of the organization today, tomorrow and over time. Our relationships with many NPO organizations span decades. They value our consistent ability to correctly assess their needs and design engagements to efficiently and cost-effectively address those needs with the right NPO financial professional. After placing a CFO with a NPO, we are often asked to provide board advisory services.
