Tom Sheppard is a strategic-minded CFO partner. He combines strategy, finance and operations to help companies build, grow and improve their businesses. He asks the right questions, gets to the answers and can execute on decision implementation. He is an advisor to senior executives on evaluating and driving their strategic business decisions and works on such issues as new businesses, markets and channels; financing; mergers and acquisitions; strategic partnerships; supply chain strategy and responding to changes in their business. He is a leader, coach, mentor and evangelist for ideas, decisions and projects to drive needed change.
Tom’s work prior to joining cfos2go shaped both his breadth and depth. He worked with Hewlett-Packard, Apple Computer and others to develop market and product strategies to penetrate the retail channel for high technology products. His background in finance, investments, business research and analysis quickly brought in requests for a range of business and operational advisory projects, as well as to evaluate investments for major companies, advice on mergers & acquisitions and to be an interim CFO for two startups. In 1998, he started KPMG’s Strategic Business Services Group, which became the firm’s leading resource for bringing practical business decision making to large corporate projects across all of KPMG’s functional and industry practices. Clients included Fairchild Semiconductor, Western Digital, Ingram Micro, Chevron and Pentair Corporation. His industry experience spans electronics, software and hardware, distribution, consumer electronics, packaged good, industrial products, finance, media and entertainment.
Prior to his career in consulting he had a 15 year career in the institutional investment business. His last position there was as Vice President, Director of Research and Portfolio Manager for Bank of America Capital Management, where he co-managed a $5 billion equity portfolio. He was also West Coast Regional Manager for Martin Simpson & Company, a highly respected technology and healthcare investment boutique and was a Senior Investment Analyst in Dean Witter Reynolds’s, West Coast Technology Group.
Tom has an MBA from Xavier University, with a concentration in advanced business economics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Miami University with a major in finance.
As a community steward, he volunteers and works with Trips for Kids, Novato Human Needs Center, Bayview Mission and the Valley Fire Volunteers of Calistoga.
I asked Tom to lead the business strategy, model and plan development for Exigent Elite. He delivered a comprehensive and well supported plan that was implementable and we are operating on it today. His analysis of the market and creativity was an integral part of putting together our business plan.
